Inglewood is in the midst of a citywide economic renaissance and we continue to roll out the red carpet for businesses. As you look around the city, the signs of a vibrant business community are obvious. Businesses recognize that investing in Inglewood brings tremendous value to their companies.
The City of Inglewood is committed to maintaining a pro-active, business-friendly environment that encourages business retention and growth opportunities. Assistance is readily available from the City’s Office of Economic and Business Development and we are committed to expanding our economic base while making our community more prosperous and livable.
Inglewood’s retail growth has spurred tremendous excitement with the opening of its newest shopping center, The Village at Century. A model public-private partnership, this signature development brings national retailers and restaurants that the community welcomes, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Michael’s, Marshall’s, Ross, Chili’s, Red Lobster and many others. Coupling The Village at Century project with the Hollywood Park Marketplace and the expanded Costco makes Century Boulevard a new retail hub for the entire South Bay region.
Numerous homeowners at “The Renaissance” housing development are settling in and enjoying their new Inglewood neighborhood. Just west of this development, Bay Meadows, the new owners of Hollywood Park, are making plans for the redevelopment of the 238-acre property. After incorporating input from the Inglewood community, they have created an ambitious and far-reaching development plan that includes retail, housing, office and recreational uses. I am confident the community will be filled with pride when this project gets underway.
With all of the positive economic activity occurring in Inglewood, it is critical that we plan well and grow smart. The city has embarked upon an update of its General Plan that will chart Inglewood’s future growth during the 21st Century. This exciting challenge requires the involvement of all stakeholders in the community, including residents, businesses, schools, churches, non-profit organizations, youth, and seniors. I hope that everyone will make a special effort to contribute to this important public process.
We are moving forward with programs and strategies designed to embrace economic revitalization as a highly collaborative process. We invite you to become a part of our city’s bright economic picture by participating in Inglewood’s business renaissance and joining the increasing number of businesses that realize that – “Business is Great in Inglewood!”
